About this Event
HIGHLIGHTS OF EVENT Theme: EARIST Manila and ECC Faculty, Technology Design and Prototyping Center (TeDPro) Lab., 3D Printer and CNC Laser Cutting and Engraving Machine seminar/workshop, hands-on on the following equipment stated earlier to familiarize and knowledge sharing.” March 16-17, 2023 | TeDPro Lab, Ground Floor, College of Engineering.
A two-day Seminar-Workshop on 3D Printing, CNC Laser Cutting, and Engraving was conducted to provide faculty members with basic knowledge and hands-on skills in operating and applying additive and subtractive manufacturing technologies. The activity aimed to enhance participants’ technical competencies and introduce them to modern digital fabrication tools for use in teaching, research, prototyping, and the development of instructional materials.
Day 1 focused on 3D Printing Technology. The facilitator discussed the basic principles of 3D printing; different types of 3D printers, materials, and filaments; printer components; safety precautions; and the basic workflow from creating a digital model to producing a physical output. The faculty participants were also introduced to slicing software and learned how to prepare and configure digital files for printing. A hands-on activity was conducted where participants operated the 3D printer and produced sample 3D-printed outputs.
Day 2 focused on CNC Laser Cutting and Engraving. The participants were introduced to the basic principles and applications of CNC laser technology, including file preparation, cutting and engraving parameters, and safety procedures. The participants create a design, are taught to operate basic functions such as setting the origin, measuring height, and setting precise cutting parameters, and see their output after operating the CNC machine.
The seminar-workshop provided the faculty participants with valuable practical experience and a better understanding of how 3D printing and CNC laser technology can support classroom instruction, project development, prototyping, and other academic activities. The activity also encouraged participants to explore integrating digital fabrication technologies into their courses and instructional practices.
PLAN OF ACTION: (What you will do to implement what you learned)
1. Apply the basic operation and proper handling of 3D printers and CNC laser machines in laboratory activities.
2. Create and produce CNC-laser-cut and engraved materials, such as labels, signage, templates, and project components.
3. Encourage students to use digital fabrication technologies for innovation, research, and project development.
