Abstract

This study investigated the learning preferences and study habits of 93 psychology students at a higher education institution in Manila, Philippines. Utilizing a descriptive research design and a modified Study Habits Questionnaire, the research examined seven key study skills areas: time management, study environment, test-taking/preparation, note-taking, reading, writing, and math skills. Findings revealed that students prioritize time management skills, recognizing their importance for academic success, but face challenges with math skills, potentially due to math anxiety or a perceived lack of relevance to their field of study. While gender did not significantly influence study habits, factors such as student status (regular or irregular), section, and age were correlated with specific study skills and preferences, highlighting the diverse learning needs within the student population. The study underscores the importance of understanding these diverse needs and providing tailored academic support to enhance the overall learning experience and academic performance of psychology students.
