Abstract

The rapid growth of the hospitality and tourism industry in coastal areas has intensified the need for sustainable environmental management, particularly among beach resorts where natural resources are central to both guest experience and economic viability. This study aims to assess the extent of green practice implementation among selected beach resorts in Ternate, Cavite, identify the challenges faced in adopting these practices, and determine their effectiveness from the perspectives of both employees and guests. Specifically, the research investigates the use of waste segregation, energy-efficient systems, water conservation measures, and natural ventilation as part of environmental sustainability efforts. A descriptive quantitative research design was employed using a structured survey questionnaire administered to 60 purposively selected respondents, comprising 30 employees and 30 guests from three resorts: Cool Waves Puerto Azul, Caysubic Beach Resort, and Dalaroy Beach Resort. Results revealed a high level of implementation of green practices, with an overall weighted mean of 4.35 on a 5-point scale. Practices such as waste segregation, energy-efficient lighting, and reliance on natural ventilation were observed to be frequently and effectively used. However, the use of solar energy systems and low-flow faucets was limited due to cost constraints, lack of infrastructure, and insufficient awareness. Challenges such as the absence of proper environmental signage and limited staff training were identified but were generally rated as least encountered. The study concludes that while green initiatives are being practiced at a commendable level, further improvements are necessary to enhance environmental performance. This research contributes to the broader understanding of sustainable practices in tourism and underscores the need for integrated strategies involving employee training, guest engagement, and investment in green technology.
