Libraries remain essential institutions that support education, research, and lifelong learning. However, many academic and public libraries still rely heavily on traditional methods of cataloging, storing, and accessing information resources. With the rapid advancement of information technology, the integration of digital library systems has become a crucial strategy to enhance access to knowledge, improve information management, and strengthen collaboration among libraries.
The Manila Academic-Public Library Educational Consortium, composed of academic and public libraries in Manila, plays an important role in promoting resource sharing and professional collaboration among librarians. Despite these efforts, the need for a unified digital platform remains evident to facilitate efficient information access, digital archiving, and inter-library connectivity.
In response to this need, the Eulogio \"Amang\" Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology, through the Office of the President and in collaboration with the College of Computing Studies, proposes the development and technology transfer of the Manila Public Digital Library System. This initiative aims to support MAPLEC member libraries by providing a digital platform that enables organized digital collections, improved cataloging systems, online access to library resources, and enhanced information services.
This community extension project reflects EARIST\'s commitment to extending its expertise in information technology to partner institutions and communities. Through technology transfer, training, and collaborative engagement, the project seeks to empower librarians with digital competencies and to improve access to information resources for students, researchers, and the public.
Ultimately, the implementation of the Manila Public Digital Library System will contribute to the modernization of library services, promote knowledge sharing, and strengthen partnerships between higher education institutions and community organizations to advance digital literacy and information accessibility.
