Abstract

The Philippines is highly prone to natural and human-induced hazards, making the education sector vulnerable to significant risks that threaten lives and disrupt learning. This study assessed the status of School Risk Reduction Management (SRRM) at EARIST Cavite Campus as a basis for developing an improved operational plan. Using a descriptive research design, data were gathered from 426 respondents composed of faculty, non-teaching personnel, and students. The assessment focused on the effectiveness of prevention and mitigation, preparedness, response, rehabilitation, and recovery measures. Additional data from the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and the school safety manual supported the analysis.

Findings revealed notable strengths, such as the conduct of annual fire safety seminars, designated evacuation areas, and effective first aid training programs. However, several gaps were identified, particularly in the accessibility of fire alarms, adequacy of disaster warning systems, ventilation during heat-related emergencies, and consistency of awareness activities. These challenges highlight the need for enhanced communication, regular drills, and improved resource allocation to strengthen SRRM implementation.

The study concludes that while EARIST Cavite Branch demonstrates proactive safety practices, targeted improvements are necessary to ensure a safer and more resilient learning environment for all stakeholders.
